The Ministry of Agriculture clarifies the new aid scheme for natural disasters

On 18 August 2026, Minister Plamen Abrovski announced that the Ministry of Agriculture and Food had taken steps to introduce a new intervention under the Strategic Plan to support active farmers who have suffered damage from catastrophic events and natural disasters. The new element is that specific eligibility criteria have now been announced: losses must amount to at least 30% of average annual production, and the Ministry aims to begin payments within the next 3–4 months.

The amount of the loss will be calculated against the previous three years, or against a three-year average based on the last five years, excluding the best and worst year. The Ministry also promises a simplified application procedure, with a substantial part of the data to be verified administratively.
